Why a corset changes how you move

A corset does more than shape the waist. It changes your posture, slows your breathing and makes every movement deliberate. That is the source of its erotic charge: a corseted body looks held, composed and slightly restrained, and the person lacing it is part of the ritual. Few pieces combine structure and seduction so completely.

Overbust, underbust or lace

The overbust is a complete look on its own. The underbust leaves the bust free for an open cup bra or pasties. The lace corset is the gentlest and the most French, in noir, rouge or ivoire.

How to size a corset

Corsets are sized by the natural waist, measured at the narrowest point without pulling the tape tight. Compare it with the waist column of our size guide. For the overbust, check your bust measurement too. On the first wear, the lacing should leave a gap of one to two inches at the back. That gap closes as the corset softens to your body. If it closes fully on the first day, it is too large.

Lacing it properly

Loosen the laces completely before putting the corset on, fasten the front, then tighten from the top and bottom toward the middle, where the waist loops are. Pull gradually, in several rounds, and stop when it feels firm but you can still breathe deeply. Having someone else lace you is half the pleasure. Never sleep in a corset, and take it off if you feel light headed.

Corset or bustier

The two are often confused. A true corset is laced and shapes the body, pulling the waist in and holding the torso upright. A bustier, or a soft corset, looks similar but mainly decorates; it has lighter boning and less shaping. What to pair with it
